EXPOsed

Yeah, yeah, it's been forever. I apologize to the hundreds waiting on me to post, but I think it's worth it if, when it finally comes, it's loaded with these great pinball goodies! Yep, after a huge evening with the Flaming Lips, we spent a great day at the Pinball Expo! The shot above gives you a good idea of what it was like... hundreds of games set to free play...from ancient machines to the latest. Some of these shots are blurry, due to lighting and perhaps my recovery from the previous evening, but they are ART!

Now this one above is getting into that blurry realm, but what's more charming is the fact that it was apparently snapped somewhere around 1953. See? Pinball=magic!

Now we start to stumble across the theme that developed when I decided to highlight the back glass art in all it's glory. This one above was the first I snapped, and it begins to hint at the aforementioned theme in a subtle fashion reminiscent of a light slap in the face. If Dolly isn't a hint, perhaps take a closer look at the game to her left....

Now here we have one of the earliest games that I shot, and there were plenty older on hand, but all of that artwork kinda looked like old Superman or Wonder Woman comics...the people just looked weird. The mystery theme was there alright, just a little harder to sell to the modern "art" lover, more accustomed to "realism" when they are interested in seeing "...". Oops, almost gave it away there..."Memory Lane", 'member? The soda shop, the cars, the girls? C'mon, you GOTTA remember the girls, right? This glass says they were there....

Alright, this may be older than Memory Lane, I wasn't keeping good notes. Google it if you care. But front and center is our theme....can't miss it.

Now there can be little doubt, thanks to Future Spa! This thing is screaming '70s porn, right? I futzed with the colors on this one to really bring out the fleshy goodness. Realism ain't gettin' more real than this..all the little details, oh my! The dude watching the woman enjoying the waterfall apparently emanating from the other woman? Hands, mister? I think you should probably leave the Future Spa right now, and quietly...Sir? Please don't make a scene.....

Not much to say about Star Gazer that doesn't say itself, so I'll make a little digression...Though there were many women at the Expo enjoying the games, you have to admit that pinball has obviously been a boys' thing, after looking at this artwork. It seems that if you didn't have access to any naughtiness elsewhere, these games were a good source for yer ya-yas...just sayin'.

Again, Little doubt what's up with Viper here...."naked" robot female (robot nipples!) wrestling with large snake. Freud couldn't pry himself away from this one..though he claimed it was the easy multiball that kept him coming back....

And finally we have the Iron Maiden. Giger meets Moebius? You've got to feel a little guilty playing this one. Great game, right? I mean, the game part...great, right?

And that concludes this awesome post. If you're like me, you'll come back often to enjoy it!

Zombies take the stage at Squirrel's

Friday, March 5, 2010

So it's come to this....

Forget that I have once again skipped a monthly post, things have been pretty crazy on certain fronts........
The BIG NEWS is that the Zombie Surf band is fading into the distance. Craig, the guitarist and essentially motivation for the band, is moving away...a good thing for him.
I have no regrets, and won't get into why it seemed inevitable (when the zombies eat each other, it's a sign to be heeded). It started as a lark and surprised us all with how much people dug us, how effortless it seemed to make a mark on the little Cornvalley music scene, and, heck, we got to open for one of my favorite bands! To top that we might have had to actually play a gig out of town.
I'm sure we'll have some official Final Show sometime in the future, but for now it seems the BCSA show will be it for us. Perhaps we'll have a few Final Shows, who knows, it's all up in the air.
It was a good ride, went further than I expected, and will always be a bright, shiny memory for me. And now I play drums, for cryin' out loud!
So goodbye They Won't Stay Dead!! You were loved.
And to those who put off seeing us do our thing: Nyahhhhh nyahhh!

Many things happening and have happened.
The above pic is from the pinball museum in Alameda, CA. Great place to spend a day!
Attended the first show of the Residents' new tour. Awesome!
Zombies are playing this Saturday at Cloud 9, then again on Feb 13th at Squirrels.
And the world continues to spin, ever enshrouded in chaos.
