Xmas Efforts

When the holiday season rolls around, sooner or later I need to knuckle down and get to work on some ART.

Messed with some color on that one too:

Funny Thought

Snuck between the pages of a library book I was reading recently was a small note saying, "If you understood this book call me," followed by a phone number.

I thought it would be fun to make a bunch of copies of the note and randomly seed books at the library with them.  Think of the options:  simple page turners, kids' books, textbooks, etc.  What would it be like if they actually got calls from people describing a book which had no ties to what they had struggled and failed to comprehend?

"It's about space pirates looking for a fabled treasure...."

"It's quite obviously about archaeology, what part didn't you understand?"

     "The rabbit really likes carrots."

I didn't do it though.  Maybe next time.

Tricky

I realized that I had forgotten a couple of pics lingering on Bad CameraTM.  When I opened one it was weird:

I knew what it was supposed to be but could not make my mind see it.  It was the darndest example of the power of disorientation.

Beck

I believe that this is the eighth time I've seen Beck.  His band is the greatest and they really enjoy themselves.  I was probably as close as I've ever gotten.  Amazing show.

Thought

"Keen observation of the present, a thorough remembrance of the past, these will equip one for a decent anticipation of the future."

Bug

"You ever smelled one of these?" he asked, holding the box elder bug gently between thumb and finger, upside down and wiggling its legs.  He took a snort just to be sure of himself.  "Pine."
Now usually this won't go far, most assume it's some type of gag, one ending in a bug in the nose or smashed into the face by a well played slap and this is most likely why so few had ever bothered to smell the bug.
He set it down on the railing, dazed and unmoving.  He did what he could to assume a neutral position as his friend cautiously took hold of it in a similar, if less refined, manner.
Never taking his eyes from him he sniffed, squinted and said, "Weird."
     "I told you I wasn't crazy."
"I never said you were crazy," laughing.
"No, but you did," and from what could be seen he suddenly lunged a solid punch into the air next to the head of his friend for absolutely no reason, but in reality he had actually punched his friend's doppelganger from Dimension 7, standing next to him, nearly identical in all ways but yet somehow always more annoying, and at this juncture in time and setting having one crucial difference:  no bug.
     So no sniff.

I Haven't Posted Anything

I haven't posted anything because I haven't thought of anything to post.  I'm here to post that I haven't posted anything and explain why that might be, though if I can explain was something that I should have thought about first, not as soon as I had typed the words that said that there was a reason that was explainable or even known.

The basic fact is I got me a "jorb" and for now it has killed any motivations I was holding onto for the sake of early rising and commitments to the body and soul, which take up the rest of the time of the day and who has time to say that something happened of note and that about it should be wrote some words attempting to explain what that thing is or was?

So not post, basically.

The Silent Meow (rough draft)

Chapter 2

It was three days later when he was allowed to leave the hospital once they finally had to admit after close observation that there was nothing wrong with him, which certainly seemed miraculous.  The doctor had simply prescribed some topical steroid for his flaky ears which he had a hard time convincing them had nothing to do with the accident.

What was it with doctors these days and steroids?  It seemed the go-to remedy for any minor ailment.  Even his cat had been prescribed some in the form of drops for the weird malady that had arisen in one of his eyes.

With this thought he rummaged through the dozens of torn bits of paper in his wallet to find his neighbor's number and ask them to feed his cat.  This was the only real issue with his being absent so long, other than work.  He called them too.

Not long afterwards the female police officer handling his case stopped by to question him.  He had little to offer and unfortunately it seemed that it was the most.  No one had seen a thing and barely noticed the incident at all.  According to the officer after the offending driver had sped from the scene the next rolled up to the intersection and patiently waited for him to get the hell out of the road.  When that did not happen quickly enough they began to honk and shout, "Hey!" at him with no response.  It was then that a pedestrian, absorbed with their phone, tripped over him, took a picture of him with said phone, and finally called 911 at which time the driver simply went around.

And that was it.  One of the most significant moments of his life just passed on by with the merest of note and little fanfare beyond the story he would tell again and again to those who would ask for it, though that was actually few.

Now I Know

Many years back I went through a phase where I would send in for "free" items offered in weird ads.  One of them was this print, which at some later point was stuck upside down over the screen of the giant console TV that I use to support my eclectic media center.  (One time when the cable guy came for a repair job he looked at it and said that everything looked great, ha.)

Now that I've been to Yosemite I realize that this is supposed to represent a real place.  Maybe.  Also, the fact that my Bad Camera attempted to replicate it was a neat coincidence.

I still think that I prefer it this way, though:

Wups Is Everywhere

Even at the top of Vernal Falls in Yosemite.  More ironic, this is where squirrels will steal from your pack if you're not watching.
